Are you a productive member of society?
March 3, 2020
As we dive deeper into tax season we can each get triggered in one way or another. Today I sent in my numbers and they are shameful. I honestly feel ashamed at how little I earned last year. (NOTE: I saved up money from a previous job to do this so this is normal for me) I didn't notice how little I had earned, nor did I feel that was the case most of the time. As I looked at those numbers, however, I couldn't help but ask myself "Am I a productive member of society." As the government sees it maybe not.
It is important for me to take that step back and look at the big picture. I am happy and proud. All my Recover Yourself work, my podcast, talking, connecting to, and training people, it has been, and continues to be, the best work of my life.
Today doors are opening everywhere but those have not opened without stepping into uncomfortable, unfamiliar, territories. I follow my bliss and my life keeps getting better, often in ways that are not so easily quantifiable.
It's funny we don't talk about money too much, but our society revolves around it. We have to recognize that there is a lot of hurt in our ideas of money. Good luck with your numbers and know that if, like me, you have some shame around them, mention it. Opening up and speaking are ways we can dissipate feelings like shame.
I love you,
