Stop Being Fooled Today

Stop Being Fooled Today

March 1, 2022

On weekdays I host a talk on the Wisdom app entitled "Tao of the Day." There, I talk to guests about the Tao te Ching. One of the most prominent points throughout the Tao is summed up in this quote from the Tao of Pooh.

"People are easily led away from what's right for them, because people have Brain and Brain can be fooled"

In a nutshell, what it is saying is that because we are smart, and we want to be and be seen as, smart, we can be fooled into doing things that don't contribute to our best interest. In other words, we get lost looking, and measuring things, outside of ourselves like our weight, perceived success, and wealth. People in marketing know this and are always looking to use that to sway our decision-making.

When we are fooled we begin to look for ways to outsmart life by taking shortcuts, or by relying on some "sure thing." Doing that means we have expectations. We measure where we are so we can judge whether we're advancing adequately or not towards those expectations. But measurements are arbitrary and only get us to trade our "now" for some idea or destination in the future. There is a Buddhist equation that says Life - Expectation = Happiness and this is achievable when you Recover Yourself from all the influences you have been living under and fooled by.

If you are ready to live your life right now, without expectation, to trust the journey and Recover Yourself, reply to this email, or set up a free initial call on my calendar.
